Town Explorers creates self-guided walking trails that turn a visit to a town into a more engaging experience.

Our trails help you slow down, look around and discover the character of a town through carefully chosen stops called Discovery Points.
At each Discovery Point, you can read or listen to the story behind the place you are standing, then take part in a small challenge, clue or activity connected to what you have discovered.
How A Town Explorers Trail Works
A Town Explorers trail is designed to be simple to use on your phone.
Once you have access to a trail, you follow the route from one Discovery Point to the next. You do not need to download an app and you do not need to print anything out.
Everything is designed to work through your phone browser, making it easy to start exploring whenever you are ready.
What Are Discovery Points?
Discovery Points are the stops on a Town Explorers trail.
Each Discovery Point takes you to a place worth noticing. Some are well-known landmarks. Others are smaller details, stories or corners of the town that are easy to miss.
The aim is not just to get from A to B. The aim is to help you experience the town more fully.
At each Discovery Point, you are guided by four simple ideas:

Instead of trying to work out a route from a separate map, Town Explorers gives you simple navigation support so you can move through the town with more confidence.

Read The Story Behind The Place
When you arrive at a Discovery Point, the Read section explains what is interesting about the place you are standing.
The stories are written to be clear, engaging and easy to follow. They are not designed to feel like a textbook. They are designed to help you understand the town in a way that feels enjoyable while you are actually there.
You might discover local history, unusual details, hidden meanings, social stories, architecture, people, industry, transport, landscape or culture.
Listen While You Look Around
If you would rather listen than read, Discovery Points include an audio version.
This means you can look around while the story plays, rather than staring at your phone the whole time.

Play Explorer Challenges

Why We Created Town Explorers
Town Explorers was created because towns deserve to be explored properly.
It is easy to visit somewhere, walk down the main street, have a coffee, take a few photos and leave without really understanding the place.
But when you know where to look, towns become much more interesting.
A bridge is not just a bridge. A lock is not just a lock. A square is not just a square. A building is not just a building.
These places often have stories connected to industry, people, landscape, trade, transport, culture and everyday life.
We also wanted to create an affordable activity that people of different ages could genuinely enjoy together. Too many days out either focus entirely on children or entirely on adults. We wanted to create something that encourages conversation, curiosity and shared discovery.
